Chicago Roads Poster (2020)

I created this simple map of the roads of Chicago. Recently, I have been experimenting with different artistic styles in my personal maps. I have been questioning everything about my mapmaking process. Who is my intended audience and how long will they look? What catches their eye first? What do colors mean in different cultures? It is easy to quickly answer these questions, but I believe the time I spend planning my designs pays off greatly in my final product. Many general design concepts are equally important in cartography and I am perpetually striving for my idea of "perfect design."
